- “climate change” is the new name instead of “global warming” because there are different kinds of changes to the climate, not only warming. For example, melting ice, increasing temperatures, rising sea levels, floods, droughts, more rain, stronger storms etc.
- This century has seen the 13 warmest years in history.
- Before humans the temperature was more stable because there was a natural balance. Now with humans, we are releasing more CO2 and the earth can’t absorb it and so the system is out of balance.
- Scientists predictions overall have been correct. There have been some that were incorrect, but the majority have been right.
- Volcanos release some CO2, but much less than humans.
- Water in the air also raises temperatures. There is more water in the air now because the air is warmer.
- Ice reflects sunlight. If there is less ice, the earth absorbs the sunlight and gets warmer.
- In the 1930s the sun was getting brighter and that caused some warming, but since the 1950s, the sun has gotten dimmer / less bright.
- The rate of CO2 released by humans is increasing also.
